Description:

Recommendations for new installations and verification process to obtain as much data from the on-board computer as possible.

Actions:

  1. Get in advance all information from Your client (If possible) – Vehicles Make Model Year / If FMS is available in the Truck / If Tacho will be connected – ask for Tacho Serial Nr., ask if C and D Ports are free in Tacho, also ask if Truck is new – Tacho is activated or not.

  2. Check if Tacho is supported and remote download is available on this page: https://igp.intendia.com/tools/dtco_check.php?l=en

  3. Before Installation check for the connection instruction on our supported vehicle list page - https://vehicles.ruptela.com/?list=trucks If You don’t have access to manuals, then ask [email protected] to provide it.

  1. In Our manuals there are usually couple of methods of installation (FMS connection, EasyCan Connection, and different places of CANBus Wires)

    mceclip2.png

Tachograph connection will be the same for the most models

mceclip3.png

For example let’s take MB Actros Euro6, we don’t have FMS connector so we will use 2nd method with EasyCan to Blue and Green CAN wires, and will connect directly to Tachographs C5 and C7/C8 with D8 pins :

Based on that connection You will need to prepare configuration file for Your device. Just make sure that CAN and Tacho is configured on the same lines as Physical connection (CAN1H / CAN1L or CAN2H / CAN2L)

  1. To configure device for this solution You should use Advanced Configurator. In IO Events Options -First “Enable common IO” parameters (with all necessary parameters for basic troubleshooting of device) and press Save, then set correctly Interfaces based on Your Connection:

K-Line – TCO (Connected with K-line Brown wire to Tachographs D8 pin)

CAN – HCV – LCV Configuration – Mercedes – Mercedes17 (Connected to CAN1H and CAN1L with easyCan)

CAN2 – Tacho – 250 (CAN2H and CAN2L wires connected to Tachographs C5 and C7/C8 pins)

After that press “Enable IO” button to enable all standard CAN and TCO parameters

(If You will need some extra parameters* like TCO_Distance, TCO_First(second)_Driver_Card, TCO_RegistrationNumber – You can enable them manually by selecting any free slot (Disabled) in Configured parameter List.)

*All parameters which values are constantly changing (All CANBUS parameters, speed, power, etc.) – should be configured with Event on Monitoring and Priority Low settings.

Sample configuration file will be included with this document!

  1. Sometimes different Truck Models (Mercedes, Volvo, Renault) might have different Baud Rate of CANBUS (it can be 1 out of 10 installations) – so after trying our recommended configuration from manual, if there will be no parameters from CAN (Engine should be ON) You can try to change CAN configuration with different BaudRate (FMS – 250 / FMS – 500) or try different connection method with different HCV Group (HCV – Mercedes/Mercedes2 or HCV – Mercedes / Mercedes22), Renault or Volvo Euro6 Trucks – Might have HCV – Truck/Truck2 group. Always refer to our manuals!

Also, Tachographs Baud Rate can be different – Tacho 250 or Tacho 500.

  1. To check Available parameters – Auto-Electrician can connect device to Laptop, start the Engine of the vehicle – open Device center and Press Test Device

Or Can press on Advanced mode – select COM port – press Connect – press Tools -> Live IO data (for testing ONLY!). And in the new Window he will see all configured parameters (it will be RAW parameters that need to be recalculated – to see actual values).

To recalculate he can check our FMIO list

  1. To check Tacho – You need to send sms command – tachostatus – to devices Phone number. If a successful service response and successful routing control response are received, You should get a response from that command - Tacho status 1. Ready for remote tacho download. For any other response for that command, please refer to our manual - https://doc.ruptela.com/articles/#!tracking-devices-publication/tachostatus/ and https://doc.ruptela.com/articles/#!hardware-solutions-publication/tachograph-solution. Also You can check with Authorized Tachograph workshop to ensure that CAN B port is activated for the Tachograph remote download, and tachograph CAN2 (CAN C) Baud Rate are the same as it is set in our configuration.

  1. To check D8 connection of K-line You should see TCO_First_Driver_ID and TCO_First_Driver_State parameters.

If K-line is Active but You don’t see drivers data – that means Driver may be refused to give his personal information. “The Data Protection Regulation (EU) 679/2016 and Directive 2002/58 / EC (Electronic Privacy Directive). The consequence of this is that starting with the Smart Tacho, the driver now must agree to the use of the data defined as personal before they leave the vehicle network and may thus be available to other, external applications.

This basically happens at VDO and Stoneridge in a similar way. The first time a driver card is inserted into the smart speedometer, the driver is asked whether he agrees to the issue of the personal data described above or not. If the driver refuses to give his consent, this data may not be accessible for external applications in accordance with Appendix 13 to the Technical Annex 1C of the Tachograph Regulation.”

Driver can give permission to his data with these few steps:
