Information that is received from Tomas Mičiunas (only for SP support), regarding Problems with VDO 4.0 tachographs and Authorization errors (Company card expired errors 0x71 0x01 0x01 0x80 0x0C/0x0E/0x10).
Not the first time we had such an incident, where Tachograph gave us an Authorization error even if the company card is not expired and in the log file we saw such errors:
0x71 0x01 0x01 0x80 0x0C
0x71 0x01 0x01 0x80 0x0E
0x71 0x01 0x01 0x80 0x10
Be informed that there is a bug in VDO tachograph software, which brick tachograph to the point, where remote download is not possible. The expired company cards were triggering the problem, then customer changes to new card and at some point tachograph gets bricked.

Our part is to always double-check the VDO Software version when we are getting such errors in the log file.
1. Investigation should always be performed by tachograph investigation workflow.
2. Clarify with the customer about the Card expiration if you got mention above errors in logs.
3. Always get print-out from Tachograph (easier way) or get .ddd file download manually from Tachograph (the version is written there):
In case if tachograph versions are 4042, 4072, or 4073 – it means that the tachograph should be taken to the tachograph Authorized service (who are working with VDO!!!) which has a specific tool for updating: WorkshopTab.
Authorized service should perform an upgrade to the 4075 version!
Be informed, that in any case if we identify that the tachograph version is 4042, 4072, or 4073, by checking not related to such incidents cases – we also should recommend upgrading the tachograph to 4075, as after some time it will hit this error.
