Description of the issue:
Some devices are locked behind security features for a variety of reasons. You may usually find them enabled from factory when client uses Ruptela provided SIM cards.
In some cases, client himself may request to remove those security features.
You must always confirm with sales manager on what can or must be removed/unlocked:
Security feature | Removed? |
APN lock | |
IP1/IP2 lock | |
Port1/Port2 lock | |
SIM card lock | |
SMS password | |
Configuration password |
Security features:
APN lock: APN name, APN user and APN password fillboxes (greyed up if lock is active). This lock is used when Ruptela wants to prevent client from using another SIM card that the one that was provided by Ruptela (as changing the SIM card usually requires changing the APN name).
IP lock: IP1 and IP2 fillboxes (greyed up if lock is active). This lock is used when Ruptela wants to prevent client from changing the server the records are sent to.
Port lock: Port1 and Port2 fillboxes (greyed up if lock is active). This lock is used for the same purpose as IP lock and usually are locked together, however, they can be unlocked separately.
SIM card lock: "Lock FM device to the SIM card" checkbox. This lock is used to prevent client from using another SIM card. However, this lock can be easily removed by unchecking the box if client can access the configuration:
SMS password: Password fillbox in Authorized numbers. This password is used to prevent client (or other people) from interacting with the device using SMS commands. Ruptela factory SMS password is "rpt", but this information should not be shared with client.
Configuration password: Configuration password fillbox. This password is used to prevent client from accessing or modifying the device configuration. Ruptela factory configuration password is usually the same for all devices and should never be shared with clients in any case. Ask a senior supporter for it if you need to know it.
Methods:
The methods to remove security features are shown below (links to specific articles are provided when available):
Which method to choose?
GPRS: This method should be used as default, as it is the safest and most convenient of all.
SMS: This method can be used when GPRS (Internet) commands are not working for some reason.
Advanced Configurator/Teamvewier: Should only be used as a last resort when the two aforementioned methods are unworkable and with the confirmation of the Head of Support.
