How to remove security features (locks) via GPRS (LCM)

Description:

This procedure applies to devices that use Ruptela SIM cards.

Required information:

You will need from client:

IMEI or object name

What can/must be unlocked.

Note: Usually, unlocking is accompanied by the removal of passwords and SIM lock (to allow client to swap SIM cards and modify the APN in the configuration), however, confirm it with the client's sales manager.

Steps:

Scenario 1: Removal of passwords and unlocking is required

1. Login to LCM superadmin.

2. Locate / create object in admin panel and go to object settings:

3. Make sure that no password is set in “FM password” field from object settings.

4. Go to Device CFG update, select required object and upload a DIFF file containing instructions to:

  • Remove CFG password.

  • Remove SMS password.

  • Untick "Lock FM device to the SIM card"

The following DIFF files with the instructions above are already uploaded to LCM superadmin:

5. With the devices still selected click on Lock/Unlock button:

Note: It is necessary to first command the upload of the DIFF file and afterwards the Lock command because they will be performed in this order, and since the unlock command will be sent without any password, we need the DIFF file to remove the SMS password beforehand.

6. Select GPRS from “Method” drop down menu, choose what you would like to do (lock/unlock) and click on “Send” button.

6. Send econnect SMS to force device to send record to server. You can use econnect templates from our SMS module. Make sure to choose the right one depending on GSM provider and also make sure to use correct SMS password before the command (device needs to be powered up and online for this to be effective):

Positive answer should be: "Emergency connection OK"

7. Go back to Device CFG update and make sure that lock/unlock was successful:

Scenario 2: Only unlocking unlocking is required

1. Login to LCM superadmin.

2. Locate / create object in admin panel and go to object settings:

3. Make sure that SMS configuration password is set in “FM password” field from object settings. Our default password is rpt

IMPORTANT! SMS or CFG configuration password should never be provided to client.

However, in some cases password can be blank. Check device configuration to be sure.

SMS password in device configuration and “FM password” field must match:

4. Go to Device CFG update, select required object and click on Lock/Unlock button:

5. Select GPRS from “Method” drop down menu, choose what you would like to do (lock/unlock) and click on “Send” button.
